Tutorial: Guide to Mobile Lighting: Wash Lighting

Overview: This tutorial covers what to consider when buying a wash light. Types of Wash fixtures: Par lighting: uses fixtures with colored gels on the front of them to cast a single color. They are the most basic of wash lighting. Par 38: Up to 150 Watts. Par 56: Up to 500 Watts. Par 64: Up to 1000 Watts. Stage washes: Designed to color mix with Red, Green and Blue halogen bulbs. It is for creating high instensity light in a smaller area. It will also have built in programs that change colors to the music. LED wash lights: LED wash lights have some unique advantages. They use very little power, don't produce heat and can create all colors for every fixture. LED Pars: have circular wash patterns, best in multiples. LED Panels/Palettes: have rectangular wash patterns. These can also double as effect lights since the LEDs are setup in a matrix and that can be changed. More dynamic than led par washes. LED Bars/Strips: These are long fixtures designed to wash a larger horizontal area. These can also be doubled as an effect light since they can be hooked up together so that one pattern will travel from one onto another, unique to led bar washes. Blacklight: Blacklight can be a viable option for wash if you expect there to be enough neon reflective surfaces. This can be done by creating a lot of neon decorations or if enough people are wearing white clothing.
